When Moving Day Turns Into An Evacuation

Okay, so you’ve just been offered this amazing new job, but it’s in another city! The pay is brilliant, the opportunities are endless and you could secure your financial future and your family’s well being if you just accepted it and signed the contract. Or perhaps you have gone through an ugly battle in the courts with your now former spouse and it’s time to move out of the house due to a court order. Well, whatever the case is when moving day turns into an evacuation, there’s no need to panic. You can still move out of the house in fine good order, not leaving any stone unturned and being able to calmly leave with your dignity intact.

Group packing

Packing things in groups is the best way to cut down your time. Don’t pack room by room, just do things.

  • Pack all furniture first, but do it in groups such as seating, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Pack your cutlery, plates and kitchen appliances next.
  • Then you can go onto everything to do with the beds, from the frames, mattresses, pillows, sheets, etc.
  • Next, pack groups of clothes, such as your home clothes, outdoor clothes and formal dress.

You get the idea! You can save a lot of time and confusion by packing things in groups so no matter where your things are or how numerous they are, you can get things done quickly.

Using a hop off island

If you are in need of somewhere to stash some of your items, then you can use a storage service as a hop off island. Maybe you just don’t have the time to move your things to your new place, in more than one trip. That’s okay this type of service allows you to drop large items off and pick them up when you’re ready. The storage units are protected by security 24/7, they have CCTV cameras, on-site security guards and they only allow people to take things out if they show ID. So a random person can’t walk in and just take your things away if they happen to guess your name.

Burning the midnight oil

Why wait until the morning to move? So many people think that they should move while there’s still daylight. That’s just wasting time. Instead, you need to find yourself a moving company that operates 24/7. This way you can pack during the daytime and move that very same day/night. You could get to your new location twice as fast as you normally would. Also, you can beat traffic and maybe even get a lower moving price from the movers because there’s less hassle they have to deal with. The other bonus is, if you have children, they will be sound asleep while you’re traveling hundreds of miles. For parents, this is so valuable because moving days are made worse by upset or unruly children slowing things down.

Moving day is a great opportunity to begin a new life. But when you’re short of time you will feel the pressure to just drop everything and go. It doesn’t have to be that way, these are some things that could give you plenty of time and then some.
