THE ESSENTIAL MUST-HAVES WHEN MOVING INTO AN EMPTY HOUSE

For most people, moving into a new house that has been empty for a while is the best thing to do when moving. They think that it’s much better not having to wait for any current occupants to move out, and they’ll be able to get in to get on with cleaning and decorating.

However, sometimes empty properties can be a little challenging. That’s especially the case when they have been empty for quite some time. If the previous owners left before it was put on the market, they might have taken everything with them and you may not be able to negotiate any of their old appliances, fixtures, or fittings in with the house price. So, it could mean starting from scratch completely.

Here are some of the things that you might need to sort out when moving into an empty property.

A Boiler

If your new property does not have a boiler, then this is one of the first things you will need to source. Otherwise, you won’t have any hot water or heating once you have moved in! When looking for a new one, it’s best to go for the best combi boiler that’s on the market at the minute. The better quality boiler you initially go for, then the longer it should last. Plus, combi boilers are known for being very efficient as well!

Curtains And Blinds

If the property is completely empty then there is a good chance that there won’t be any window furnishings. That means you will have to source your own curtains and blinds. Before you do buy any, it’s essential that you measure the windows. This should give you an idea of whether curtains or blinds will work best, and you will also know the size you are buying for.

Furniture

Of course, one of the most obvious things you will need for an empty house is plenty of furniture! Most people who do move into an empty house like to hold on to some of their old stuff at least for a little while. That way, they don’t have to blow the bank trying to furniture an entire property with only new pieces.

Kitchen Appliances

There’s also a pretty good chance that the property might not have a fitted kitchen. If you know this to be the case, it’s worth visiting a few kitchen shops to see what they can do for you. Most of these kinds of stores offer special deals if you buy a complete new kitchen with them and get them to fit it for you.

Light Fixtures And Fittings

Even if there are still light fittings in the property, it could be a good idea to replace them if they have been in there for some time while it has been empty. The wiring might also need replacing as well. Generally speaking, it’s always a good idea to call out an electrician and to see what they think.

Good luck moving into your new home.
