Styling Out the School Run

When it comes to the school run, there are a few obvious trends in the playground. There are the mum’s that have just rolled out of bed and rushed around after their kids. They’re in loungewear, with scraped back hair and potentially slippers. There are the gym bunny mums, in their lycra and running shoes, heading straight to the gym or for a run after drop-offs. Then, there are the working mums, who head to work as soon as they can, and turn up in the playground in their work uniforms or smart suits. Of course, there are also the normal jeans and t-shirts type mums in the mix too. There’s a lot of converse in that crowd.

Whichever group you fall into, believe it or not, there are benefits to turning up to school in the mornings looking good. It can help you to make a good impression and get on with other parents and teachers. It can boost your confidence in a new group, which in turn can help your child to settle and feel more comfortable at school, and it can make you seem more approachable.

So, here’s a look at some ways to add some style to your school run attire, whatever you are going once the kids head through those doors.

Shoes

The school run might seem like the perfect time to get your trusty old Uggs out. But, chances are these aren’t as comfortable, warm or waterproof as they once were. Instead, wear shoes that make you feel confident and comfortable. Especially if you’ve got a long walk to and from school every day. Some wellies are ideal for winter runs, but why not add a little sparkle with some cool Light Up Shoes that the kids and parents alike will envy.

Hair and Makeup

The idea of doing your hair and makeup so early in the morning can seem a little traumatic, and you certainly wouldn’t be expected to be totally glammed up at the school gates. But, a little makeup and styled hair can help you to look and feel great. It’ll make you look more alert and awake and hide your tiredness. All you need to do is brush your hair or add a spray of dry shampoo, and add a quick sweep of tinted moisturiser, mascara, and lip-gloss and you are ready to go.

A Bright Coat or Jacket

It almost always rains on the school run. Even if it’s a lovely sunny day, the clouds will manage to squeeze a few drops out for those few minutes you are waiting at the school gates. So, you need a coat or jacket. Opt for a bright colour, like yellow or red, so that you stand out from the crowd and add a bit of cheer, whatever the weather.

A Good Cross Body Bag

When our kids start school, they are in theory old enough to carry their own bags and not run off. Unfortunately, they rarely live up to this theory. They’ll come out of the school gates to hand you bags, lunch boxes, discarded jumpers and gloves you haven’t seen for weeks. A cross body bag means you’ve always got two free hands at the ready.
