REVIEW: EDUCATION QUIZZES

NOW Elsie is well and truly settled into school, helping her with her learning has become a priority of mine as a mum.

Yes she’s only four, but she’s a four year old girl who is desperate to learn, (and amazingly!) to achieve. Every day she comes home from school and wants to practice her letters, do some drawing or tell me about the new phonics she has learned that day.

It’s quite astonishing really how fired up for learning she is!

Which is why when I found out about something called Education Quizzes and was asked to try them out with Elsie, I was more than a little intrigued.

Education Quizzes is a site that aims to help all children to be successful at school. The company prides itself on making the school curriculum easy and enjoyable with suites of KS1, KS2, 11-Plus, KS3 and GCSE quizzes that are created by teachers but can be used at school or at home.

As Elsie is in currently in reception year, she’s currently just outside of KS1 but still we decided to have a go at the quizzes to see if she’d get anything from them.

For KS1, the educational quizzes that are available are designed to build your child’s confidence with the KS1 National Curriculum subjects in Year 1 and Year 2 at primary school, like English, Maths and Science, as well as most of the lesser school subjects.

In all honesty, I thought that the quizzes would be too difficult for Elsie, but I was really pleasantly surprised and a little shocked too, after we gave the site a whirl.

The first quiz we tried was an English quiz on letters and even though she’s only just beginning to learn the use of small and upper case letters, she flew through the first quiz (with me reading the questions) and got 7 out of 10!

We did have to abandon an art quiz after I realised the questions were far too advanced for her, but then we moved onto the subject of Maths and yet again I was astonished with Elsie’s learning as she correctly identified all ten shapes in a quiz!

Amazing!

All in all, I’m really impressed with Education Quizzes and think it could be a really useful learning tool for Elsie as she grows older.

A monthly subscription (which can be cancelled at any time) costs just £9.95 which is very reasonable too, especially considering the amount and mix of learning materials that are available.

There’s also a schools’ subscription package available through which parents and teachers can work together and students can access the quizzes at home or at school.(Even better, the more students a school signs up with, the cheaper the subscription! It is possible for some schools to spend less than £2 a year per child.)

All in all, it was great to do something different with Elsie at home in regards to her learning and I’ve no doubt we’ll be back to try some more quizzes again in the future.
