PREPARING YOUR HOME FOR A BABY

Preparing for a baby takes a lot of saving, organisation and preparation. This applies to many areas of your life. One key area you’re going to have to get into shape during the nine month lead up to your little one’s birth is your home. Your home will inevitably need to change in order to accommodate a new baby’s needs and to make life as simple as possible for you once you get back with your baby and your hands are full. Here are some suggestions that can help you with this process.

Moving

Sometimes, people decide to move home before they have a baby. How realistic this will be for you can depend on various factors, ranging from whether you’re tied into a rental agreement, if you own and need to sell and rebuy and more. Moving, however, can allow you to upgrade your space, ensuring you have a nursery – which will eventuall become a bedroom – for your little one. You may also want to seek out a property with a garden for play or in the catchment area for good nurseries and schools. If you’re considering moving, start this process as soon as possible, as moving when heavily pregnant can be difficult.

Decluttering

If you’re staying in your home, you may want to try decluttering. All of us amass unnecessary belgonings over tiem, but once you start invest in items, furniture, storage solutions and more for your little one’s belongings, you’ll quickly find that having a clear space and blank canvas to work with is particularly preferable. Go through your belongings and determine what you want to keep and what can go. Sell, donate and recycle the items you need no longer want or need.

Deep Cleaning

A pre-baby deep clean is a good idea too. This, again, helps your home to become a blank canvas, perfect for your little one. Complete the chores that don’t get completed on a routine basis – deep clean the carpets, clean the oven, clean the microwave, wipe down the skirting boards. This will leave you with less to do once you’re baby arrives. You may want to take care of issues such as household repairs and pest control during this stage too.

Creating a Nursery

If you have room for a nursery, creating a nursery can be one of the most exciting parts of preparing for your baby. Browse baby furniture such as moses baskets, cribs and cots. You can have storage ready for baby clothes, nappies and more. Invest in changing tables and plenty of baby-safe toys and entertainment options, such as mobiles that can be safely fitted above your baby’s sleeping space.

Safety Check

As your baby grows, you’ll quickly find that you have to make many changes to your home in terms of safety. From baby gates to securing furniture to walls, keeping blind cords tied up and out of the way and more.

Hopefully, some of the information above should help you to prepare your home as best possible for your baby’s arrival. Keep them in mind and get started with them!
