Mind, Body & Sole: Being More Comfortable When You Exercise

The biggest issue a lot of people have with exercise is that it pushes you out of your comfort zone. While this is part of the whole experience, we can feel that the act of exercise itself is a little too difficult, especially when we are starting out. This is why there are little things you can do to make the process, not exactly comfortable, but more bearable, and what are these?

Wearing The Right Clothes

Regardless of your exercise regime, if you’re wearing the wrong clothes without adequate support, or the wrong shoes, one small little twinge could turn into a major injury if you’re not careful. Wearing the right clothes will ensure you have the right support, but will reduce chafing. Sports bras are one of the most useful items of equipment regardless of the workout you are doing. There are numerous sports bra providers, Freya bras being one of many. Also, never underestimate the impact of proper footwear. If you are running, squatting, or doing any form of HIIT, having the right support, with cushioned soles, will make for a more bearable workout overall.

Choosing The Right Workouts

While you want to be challenging yourself, it’s important that, especially at the very outset of your exercise regime when you are just beginning, that you don’t overdo it. Something like Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) can be a sign that you’ve done too much, too soon. If you are a beginner, ensuring that you choose the right workouts that gives you a run for your money, but doesn’t cause abject pain, is a fine balance. A lot of people expect a workout to completely annihilate them, and while this is good once in a while, we have to function in our day to day lives. Remember, exercise should help boost energy, not drain you of it.

The Little Things (That Mean A Lot)

Some people workout and believe this gives them the license to eat anything and everything they want. But if you’re not filling your body with the proper nutrients, as well as the desired amount of protein and carbs to sustain your body or to build on it, you are going to feel tired all of the time, and you will eventually give up on your new exercise regime. It’s important to ensure you’ve got proper fuel before your workout also. And while some people feel better exercising in a fasted state, whatever your opinion, it’s vital that you keep yourself hydrated. And if you are working at building more muscle and strength, you have to rest your body. For some reason, people think that not sleeping is a badge of honor, but if you aren’t getting the adequate amount for you, this will have a detrimental impact across every part of your life, not just in terms of your strengths and gains.

Once you get into the swing of exercising, then you can begin to push your comfort zone out further and further, and your body will adapt as a result. But when it comes to the basics as far as preparing yourself for exercising, a little comfort can go a long way.
