Designer Ideas For Small Spaces In Your Home

Your home is your own pride of place to relax and unwind in, be with the family and enjoy the spare time you have. So it is no surprise that whether you own your home or rent, that you want to decorate it as best you can. However, while you may love your home and where it is, the chances are there might be some things you would change if you could and often a size of room is high on the list of things. But while knocking down walls and making spaces bigger might not be an option, there are clever ways you can design the space. I thought I would share with you some of my suggestions.

Clever storage and less clutter

In a small home or just a small living space, storage a is going to be your best friend and thankfully Pinterest is full of ideas on how you can use every nook and cranny in your room. However, no matter how much storage you have, you need to really consider how much you actually have. We can all be guilty of hoarding at times, but clutter, no matter what it is, can make a room feel closed in an untidy, even when it isn’t. Try and minimise the space as much as you can to make the most of it.

Specific pieces of furniture

A good idea is to be specific with your choice of furniture. It might be that you want to think about what you have in the space and what could work. Use clever design tricks such as a glass coffee table for small living room or mirrored furniture in a small bedroom. It can make the world of difference to your rooms by giving the effect it looks bigger than it actually is.

Size up everything

Even if you do have a small room to work with when it comes to decorating, there is going to be furniture that will be exactly what you want without it needing to take over or be too big. Measure everything. Even mark it on the floor before buying something so you can physically see how it will fit. This is especially important for big pieces of runtiuter like sofas or beds.

Lighter and brighter colours

Even if your favourite colour is red or black, for example, try and avoid painting your walls in darker colours if they are particularly small. This will only close it in and make it feel smaller than it actually is. Bright and light colours are great way to give that feeling of airy space. Pastel shades of some of your favourites may work really well.

Mirrors and the use of natural light

Finally, mirrors and natural light and having as much light as possible into a room are great ways to make a room feel big. These are interior tricks that can make the biggest of difference into your home.

I hope that these idea help you when it comes to decorating small spaces in your home.
