A JUICY PACKED LUNCH WITH BRITISH PICCOLO TOMATOES (AD)

We love tomatoes in our house. You could even say we’re big fans.

They’ve one of the few healthy foods that my two children have both always willingly eaten and for that, I am incredibly grateful! As for me? Well honestly, I’m not sure I go a day without eating at least a few of them, somehow, somewhere. They are without question one of my very favourite foods.

But like with all food, there is a marked difference between the cheap and cheerful tomatoes (albeit still lovely) and the really, really good ones. You know the kind I mean. Those perfect, juicy red and yellow bobby dazzlers that are so delicious they make your tastebuds water just thinking of them.

Recently we were very kindly sent (being tomato fans an’ all) a bumper box of the juiciest, most perfect looking British piccolo tomatoes to eat and enjoy. (You can find them at all good supermarkets but ours came from Morrisons and ASDA).

And my were they tasty! So tasty in fact, that I promptly devoured half a box of of the vine ripened ones within minutes of them arriving, even though I told myself I’d just ‘test a few’. The only thing that stopped me from eating the lot? The fact that I knew my seven year old daughter would want to enjoy them as part of her daily packed lunch for school.

So over the course of the week for her packed lunch, together we chopped and packed up dozens of the beautiful red and yellow glossy piccolo tomatoes for her to enjoy at school at dinnertime. And, they were according to Elsie, ‘absolutely delicious!’ (She’s not wrong!)

As a mum, any food that is both super healthy and loved by my children, will always be a winner in my eyes. But the fact that my seven year old appreciated and truly enjoyed them (much more than the usual tomatoes we buy) was so, so lovely to hear. I mean, when your daughter comes home talking about how yummy they were, you know you’re onto something.

My only concern, is that now we’ve ran out of them all (or in other words scoffed the lot), I’m going to have to make sure I get some more in soon, so I don’t have two little disappointed faces when it comes to lunch or teatime.

Oh British piccolo tomatoes, you have truly spoilt us! But thank you very much indeed.
