KEEPING THE FAITH WHEN YOU WORK FOR YOURSELF (BUT HAVE NO WORK COMING IN)

THAT fear you feel when you have no work coming in? I know it well. Very well. I’ve been freelancing for six years now, making money from my blog for the last 18 months or so and still, I fear THAT fear. When work is quiet. When my inbox is manageable. When my bank balance looks piteously low or I’m in the red. I’ve been there more times than I

THE LIST EVERY WOMAN NEEDS TO HAVE (OR MAKE)

I’M not a fan of the list generally. Just so you’re clear. Yep they’re useful and pretty handy but they always give me the ‘fear’ that I’ll never have enough time to get everything done. Or ‘the guilt’ when I don’t manage to tick everything off my list. But recently I’ve decided that I need a list in my life. And that, my friend, you do too!¬†This list that I’m

DEAR KATE… SHOULD I FIGHT FOR A FUNDAMENTAL PART OF WHO I AM?

REMEMBER that Agony Aunt idea I had? Well it’s come to fruition my friends and I couldn’t be more thrilled. (Or nervous.) I put the idea out there and the emails have come. The first one that landed in my inbox was this one. I found it hidden in my spam box and when I read it, I don’t think I breathed until I’d come to the end of the

TEACHING ELSIE TO BE GRATEFUL

AT bedtime, Elsie and I have got a new routine. Which goes a little something like this…pyjamas on, brush teeth, clean face, toilet trip, bedtime story (or two), lights out, cuddles and a question. A very simple question that I’ve introduced over the past few weeks. And the question is this:

10 BOOKS YOU NEED (& WILL WANT TO READ AGAIN & AGAIN)

AS a total bookworm, I cannot get enough of the little devils. Books, that is. I dream of my house, one day, being some kind of gigantic library. So far I’ve still got some way to go with this, but I’m getting there. A woman on an important mission, I’m sure you’ll agree. In my house there are bookcases and piles of books in every room. Some books I could

GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO HAVE A BREAK

GO on, I beg of you. You’ll be in good company too I promise, because I’m just about to do exactly that. I’ve been sitting here for a good couple of hours now working, but there’s nothing else left in the tank, so to speak. I’m supposed to be sat here writing blog posts and catching up with emails. You know, all the kind of stuff, a busy freelancing blogger

I’VE LOST MY INNER REBEL (AND I WANT HER BACK)

I THINK I may have lost my edge. I realised that last week. I looked in my wardrobe and didn’t like half the clothes that currently hang in there. I looked back over a few months work of blog posts and thought much of my work was too ‘safe’. I looked in the mirror and couldn’t see her. No matter how hard I tried. I couldn’t see my inner rebel.
