How To Transition Your Wardrobe From Summer To Autumn

Right now, summer has barely set in.

But as the end of June passes and July begins, fashion changes. Have you ever noticed that all of the good summer stuff seems to be in the sales, and so many more autumnal hues are hitting the shelves? At this time of the year, as retail enters into Q3, we see the pre-fall or autumn looks coming out. Expect lots of summer shapes in more autumnal color palettes and vice versa. As you’ll know, dressing between seasons can be hard. And right now, you may be focused more on your holiday wardrobe than anything else, but if you want to make sure that you’re picking the best of the new season stock, here’s how you’re going to do it.

COVER YOUR ARMS

One of the first things that you’re going to start doing as you blend your summer and autumn outfits together, is to cover your arms. You can still wear some of your summer favorites, but you may need to make sure that you’re covering up a bit more. Get a jacket that works well, but can be carried through to autumn for this too. Light jackets are exactly what you want here. So just make sure that you’re picking out styles that aren’t going to be too heavy for summer.

BRING IN TIGHTS

At the same time, another really great idea here is to think about wearing some tights. If you love some of your summer and autumnal pieces, and they’re great for milder days but there’s still a little chill, tights are perfect. They can still look great with your outfits, but they can just add that extra layer of warmth in too. You could go with natural tights for colder summer days and then darker when we’re really starting to get into autumn.

BRING OUT THE BOOTS

One really great tip to take note of, is to start wearing your boots early. You’ll find that ankle boots are great to wear in summer and autumn, as much as they are in winter and spring – especially in this country. You’ll find that on the not-so-hot days, that your feet won’t be too hot at all. And you’ll be able to keep a little warmer when it is starting to get a bit nippy.

WEAR AUTUMNAL SHADES

If you want to keep wearing summer styles, then the best way to get ready for autumn is to wear autumnal shades. Whenever you look at autumnal outfits, you’ll see it’s the browns and oranges that transition well. And this way, you won’t be too hot on mild days, but you’ll still feel autumnal.

PACK UP

Finally, when you think you’ve seen the last of the summer days (hopefully in September and not August!), it’s time to pack up your high-summer stuff. If you know you’re not likely to be wearing denim shorts and cami tops for the rest of autumn, pack them up. You may not want to bring out all of your heavy winter stuff right now, but you never know when the weather will turn. So make that swap early and you should find that you’ve made the transition quite smoothly after all.
