SPONSORED / FINISHING OFF OUR HOME

We’ve lived in our ‘project’ house for just over five years now and boy has that time flown!

After moving in when Elsie was a mere six weeks old (yep, that was interesting!) we’ve spent the time doing up our 1930’s detached house as best we can, but there’s still quite a bit left to do including putting in double glazed windows.

The downstairs is almost finished bar putting in some replacement windows. We’ve just got a few cosmetic jobs left to do like finishing off glossing doors and sourcing some new curtains for the living room. But the upstairs? Well that’s a completely different story!

Elsie’s and Leo’s bedrooms are pretty much done and I’m so pleased with them. They’re fun and colourful with some quirky touches and they love spending time in them, but we still have lots to do…

THE LOFT

At the moment, our loft is pretty much like most peoples and just full of stuff such as boxes of old baby clothes and toys, the Christmas tree and decorations. But, it’s such a good space that we’re considering possibly converting it into another bedroom or perhaps even two if that’s doable.

The space is pretty enormous and converting the loft would certainly add value to the house but the question is, can we live with all the mess whilst it’s being done? It’s something we’re still pondering but just in case we do decide to go ahead, I’ve been looking at roof blinds like this one and thinking about the best use of space.

OUR BEDROOM

I grumbled to Jamie over the weekend about how much I hate our bedroom and I do currently. Bar the quick lick of paint we’ve given it, it’s had practically zero attention since we’ve moved in and it definitely needs some TLC.

It’s functional but that’s about it and I’m desperate to get my hands on it to make it a space we both love, but with Leo and Elsie to look after plus my work to do, sadly it’s way down the bottom of the list of priorities at the moment, although Jamie has said he’ll give me a helping hand when he’s off work in a few weeks.

I’ve got all kinds of plans for it, including wallpapering the panels in our original built in wardrobe and putting up masses of photos and prints, but for now these jobs will have to wait just a little bit longer.

THE BATHROOM / TOILET

Imagine if you can a good sized family bathroom with pink, yes pink, facilities! Our bathroom is stuck in a pink and grey 80s time warp and desperately needs an overhaul. It’s only saving grace being the huge bath! (Which came in very useful when I was pregnant and in labour with Leo.) It could be and hopefully will be, a stunning room eventually as it has the most beautiful 1920’s window and original built in cupboards, but most of what is currently there needs ripping out and replacing.

I’ve already got the colour scheme in mind and plenty of ideas for the layout, we now just need to knuckle down, buy what we need and get the experts in!  Same goes for our separate toilet too. We have considered knocking down a wall and combining the two, but I think with two kids, having a toilet separate can only be a good idea right?!

So there you go! Our big jobs left to complete before our ‘project’ house finally becomes our finished home.

Sometimes I wonder why we decided to make our lives so complicated but then I remember the fun we’ve had transforming it and bringing it to life and realise that it has all been worth it.

As the saying goes, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’…
