SECRETS: Smitten with a little room in a little train station bar

I KNOW what you’re all thinking. What the ….?!

It’s a strange title for a post granted and to be fair, it’s probably going to be a bit of a strange post too. But what can I say? I like to mix things up.

On Saturday night I went out for some drinks and dinner in Sheffield. (Here’s a little snapshot of what I wore, posing in the local train station – Zara blazer, a £3 top, black lace Dolce & Gabbana pencil skirt, my beloved YSL heels and a vintage sequin clutch.)

Sheffield is my nearest city. A city I know pretty well. Or so I thought.

You see, I like to think when it comes to glamorous places to go, I know where to head to. But on Saturday I was introduced to a small room in a small bar in Sheffield train station that I didn’t know existed. And it took my breath away.

This discreet room at the Sheffield Tap (it’s not hidden but is tucked away) reminds me of the kind of bar you find in Paris, one of my favourite cities. I don’t know why, but my guess is that it’s probably down to it’s innate elegance and charm.

You see, this is a room which doesn’t try hard to be anything, but just IS something.

I love it because it reminds me of bygone eras, of times when people dressed much more glamorously. When people sat and really engaged in conversation because there wasn’t the distraction of mobile phones or social media. When entertainment was being in the company of others, not sat at home in front of a screen.

So yes, I am smitten. Smitten with a room. In a bar. But in my defence, when you visit, you’ll understand why. It’s just so bloody lovely! And yes the wine (and beer – if this is your kind of thing) is rather good too.

Next time you’re in Sheffield, waiting for a train with some time to kill, please do pop in, grab a drink and take a look for yourself. Go through the main bar (also very charming) into the next room and then into the final one, this little gem.

And behold it’s astonishing character, the original features, the high ceilings, the dazzling chandeliers, the larger than life mirrors, the incredible wooden door, the impressive beer display and the stunning floor.

Seriously, if you’re not charmed by this charming wee room, then well, in all honesty, I’m just not sure we can ever be friends. ;-)

See you on Friday!

With love and pouts,
