Seaside stripes and denim

OH I do love to be beside the seaside…

Especially when I’m dressed comfortably and braced for the Great British weather! You may have noticed that it was a little quiet on Pouting In Heels last week and you would be right, it was, as I enjoyed a week off holidaying with my husband, Elsie and some of my family on the beautiful North Yorkshire coast.

Based in a lovely cottage on a farm just minutes away from Robin Hood’s Bay, it was, a pretty perfect break. I ate (lots), drank (lots), relaxed (as much as is possible with a toddler!) and all in all just had a really fabulous time. The weather was kind to us too!  Not hot, but perfectly pleasant, which meant we got to see and enjoy some much needed sunshine as well.

As the weather forecast was rather ominous before we left, I had to pack for every eventuality and as it was a little chilly at times, spent most of the week wearing my beloved skinny jeans and various tops.

I did however get to wear my first jumpsuit for a night out with the husband as we celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary (will share this with you another time as it’s just SUCH a classic piece!) and this striped Dorothy Perkins strapless maxi dress, a bargain charity shop buy,  for a day at the seaside.

To keep warm in the nippy winds, I teamed it with my much loved, vintage denim shirt, which is probably the best investment I have ever made when it comes to tops. Denim shirts just go with EVERYTHING don’t they?!

And when the temperatures dipped in the late afternoon, I added another layer with my denim trench coat, an absolute steal from Primark a few months ago.

Brace yourself my lovelies, this oh so chic coat which looks incredibly Parisian and pretty expensive – cost me just £2.50 in the sale! Yes really. I think it’s safe to say you’ll be seeing this in many future style posts this year, as the weather turns more autumnal.

To pull the outfit together and nip in my waist I popped on a tan leather waist belt which I bought from TK Maxx a few years ago. Footwear – as you’d expect for a day at the beach- were sandals from French Connection and my accessories included Top Shop earrings, Primark shades (designer ones aren’t so safe in toddler hands!) and a couple of fabulous loom band pieces, very kindly made for me by my niece and nephew. I wore their creations with pride.

Finally, as Elsie accompanies me in so many of these pics, it would be rude of me not to mention her outfit too!

Elsie wore dungaree shorts, striped T-shirt and cardigan from Next, tights from Polarn O.Preyet, denim jacket and sunhat from H&M, Liliputians headband (used to stop her hat blowing away!) and seaside appropriate wellies from Tu at Sainsburys.

Ok, so we may not have been in bikinis, but all in all, I’m rather pleased with our seaside looks.

And one thing’s for sure, you may not always got glorious hot weather when it comes to holidaying at home but when it comes to blowing away the cobwebs, you can’t go wrong with a lovely and traditional British seaside break. Especially when there’s fish and chips involved. ;-)

What do you think of stripes? Do you love them as much as me and Elsie?!

Have an amazing week everyone! See you on Wednesday!

With love (and pouts)

  • Looking super chic as always! I love stripes and spots, more so spots. I’ve never owned a denim shirt though but your rocking it. May have to look into one. Looks like you had a lovely weekend and I love your seaside shots, full of fun and love. Xx

    • Thanks Franki! You would totally rock a denim shirt. Honestly, they are so versatile. I must wear this at least 10 times a month! x

  • Looking super glam on the beach Mrs! Love all your looks, especially the bargain coat. I bought myself a new denim jacket the other day after not wearing one for eons – LOVE IT. Goes with everything. Great to see that Elsie is a little fashionista too – just like her Mummy :) And that final picture of you all together – super cute! x x

    • Thanks Michelle! So pleased you’ve found a fabulous denim jacket. They really do go with everything! Love that pic of us together too. Precious times! x

  • Hi Katie

Looks like you had the most beautiful holiday! What a stunning place.

Okay, we need to talk about that denim coat! You told me I’d love it and now that I’ve seen it I can tell you I DO!! Can’t believe it was only £2.50 – that’s just nuts. Wish Primark sold online, I’d literally be on there now.

    Loving your bargains
