REVIEW / WEARING COLOUR WITH KETTLEWELL

It’s hard to believe I once used to wear so much black and grey.

Or indeed that my wardrobe, colour wise, was so dull and dare I say it, but perhaps more than a little boring. It’s been five months now since my great colour epiphany and hand on heart, I can honestly say that embracing colour and wearing the right colours for me, has made such a huge difference to my life!

A bold statement to make but one that’s absolutely true. When it comes to style, wearing colour has without a doubt made me more adventurous and confident and has been instrumental in helping me to find my fashion feet again after having little Leo. It’s also made me a lot happier! Hurrah for that.

However, there is a downside to colour analysis and it is this…sometimes it can be near impossible to find anything to buy in your ‘wow colours’ (the ones that suit you best) on the high street. Retailers are of course led by trends which is all fine and dandy until you realise that you’re desperate for new clothing and can’t find anything suitable in your colours anywhere for love nor money.

So today, because of this, I’m pretty damn giddy to let you into a secret and introduce you to a fantastic brand that specialises in selling truly lovely pieces in a huge spectrum of colours, providing clothes, shoes and accessories to suit everyone’s colouring. Yes I know. What an incredible idea ey?

I first heard about Kettlewell Colours at my colour analysis session and loved the sound of the brand so was truly delighted when I was asked if I’d like to try out a few items from their collection and let you know my thoughts.

Firstly choosing items from the website is really easy.

You can choose by item as you normally would when shopping online or you can choose by your ‘season’ (if you know it) or colour (and let me tell you there’s hundreds of them!). I’m a ‘vibrant autumn’ which means I look best in strong, bold colours with depth and so because I’m lucky enough to know which season I am, that’s what I decided to search by.

I was pleasantly surprised by the choices on offer – and of course the colours – and so after much umming and aahing, here’s what I settled on.

From a simple basic tee to a more expensive coat, I really wanted to try out a variety of items to allow me to test the brand out as much as is possible and to give you all a better idea of what you can expect. And I think I managed that pretty well.

OK, so first things first. You will find that Kettlewell Colours are slightly more expensive than you would probably expect to pay on the high street in most shops. There’s no doubt about that.

However I have to say, personally I really think the extra expense is worth it. All the items I ordered are of a very good quality, are incredibly well made and I can already tell that they will last me a lot, lot longer than if I’d bought something similar but cheaper somewhere else.

Much to my surprise, I really love all the items I received from Kettlewell, including the forest green Alexa jacket which I initially thought was too expensive.

Why do I love them so much? Well, because the colours are perfect for my colouring, they fit really well and everything I ordered is incredibly wearable. I’ve owned these items for a few weeks now and already have worn them all multiple times, particularly the jacket which astonishingly seems to go perfectly with almost everything I wear!

None of the items, bar the stunning scarf perhaps, is particularly fancy or fashion forward, but please, please don’t let that put you off! Because really the whole ethos of this brand is to help us all embrace and wear more colour through clothes and accessories that are essential daily items. Isn’t that refreshing?!

I absolutely love how Kettlewell Colours enables you to buy items in a rainbow of colours, allowing you to pick what suits you best and what you love, instead of what’s only in ‘Vogue’ at any particular time. And if you have undergone colour analysis or are about to, it really is such a useful and brilliant website. (Do check out their brilliant blog too for colour combination ideas too.)

Between you and I, I have a feeling that me and this brand are set to become very firm friends.

Many thanks to Kettlewell for my stunning pieces.

  • Thank you for this article; do you have any information on their sizing policies, as I’ve heard some pretty bad things about it. I’ve heard that essentially, if you’re not thin, they don’t cater for you, and that they treat people who are average-sized as really, really big. A look on their site suggested that basically, they have nothing for me, because despite me being far from huge, even their biggest sizes are too small for me, and that’s really demoralizing.
