I can still remember the first time I tried ‘proper chocolate’. How it melted in my mouth and I didn’t want the taste to end.

Don’t get me wrong, I still like and enjoy a cheap bar of chocolate like the rest of us from time to time, but when it comes to luxury and indulgence, the quality stuff is really where it’s at. And this fine chocolate, I’m about to tell you about, is right up there with the best of them. I was recently invited to try out some exquisite handmade chocolates from Holdsworth Chocolates and boy, are they good!

The company has been creating luxurious handmade chocolates since 1988 from it’s base in Bakewell, Derbyshire. The family business, which was started by mum Barbara, has since been passed on to daughter Genevieve and still prides itself on creating beautiful, world class chocolates.

The first thing that struck me, and will strike you too, is the beautiful packaging in which the chocolates are lovingly housed. It’s all just so, so incredibly pretty. Like the chocolates themselves, you can tell much love and thought has gone into the design and just to give you an idea of how special the packaging is, Elsie begged me to keep all of the boxes for her! (And who could blame her? Just look at them!)

Now in my house, it’s probably fair to say, we all love a good chocolate or too. But we’re also pretty picky and not the easiest to impress. But my, oh my, Holdsworth chocolates certainly knocked our choosy socks off. They are, and I don’t say this lightly, absolutely lip-smackingly delicious.

For purposes of this review, we were sent numerous boxes and packets of chocolates to try out (best job in the world?! Quite possibly!) and naturally we took this job and responsibility very seriously. We even roped in some members of my extended family to try out this incredible milk chocolate selection with us too and it’s safe to say this lovely box didn’t last long!

All the chocolates we tried and tested were loved and thoroughly enjoyed, even including the dark chocolate ones, which is the kind of chocolate I normally wouldn’t choose and the flavours are truly divine. Holdsworth Chocolates really do create luxurious chocolates for everyone. Traditionalists will adore the ‘Nothing But Milk Chocolate’ collection, those with a taste for the finer things in life will be bowled over by the Champagne Truffles and for the more adventurous, the Milk Chocolate Banoffee & Chilli Truffles will definitely impress.

As for our favourite? Well, our vote as a family was magnaminous. For us, it has to be the Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Truffles which are quite simply, the BEST CHOCOLATES I’VE EVER EATEN!

So good, we had to divide them up equally, to save arguments (!) and so adored, I’m just about to put an order in for Christmas so that both my husband and daughter will find them under the tree on Christmas Day.

If you’re a chocolate lover or know anyone who is, do yourself a favour and treat yourself to some Holdsworth Chocolates too. I promise you, you will not, for a second, regret it and if you’re struggling to find someone a Christmas present this year, well trust me, Holdsworth chocolates will make the perfect gift.
