THE town where I live is often associated with mines, whippets and flat caps… but for those that don’t know, Barnsley has so much more to offer than this!

You may not realise for instance that Barnsley is a town passionate about fashion and style. What? Don’t believe me?! Well see for yourself…

These stunning shots taken by Barnsley photographer Nicola Hyde, are all part of a new exhibition to celebrate what the town has to offer in the fashion stakes.

Nicola – of Dolly Photography – was commissioned by The Barnsley Civic to create an exhibition of images aimed at promoting local style and talent, in a bid to shed new light on fashion businesses that have their roots in the town.

Her photography exhibition sits alongside the national Catwalk to Cover gallery show – a touring exhibition from the Fashion and Textile Museum in London which profiles the work of experienced fashion photographers.

Talking about her exhibition, Nicky said:

“There are so many fashionable people in Barnsley. We have style and I’m so proud to be able to represent my home town and put us on the map.

“The Catwalk to Cover exhibition is amazing but there’s no reason why Barnsley fashion designers can’t have their own show to sit alongside it and I’m proud to be able to show their work in my photographs and maybe get them some more recognition.

“Some of their work is amazing: there are talented make up artists, hairdressers and designers who are really making a name for themselves and this is a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the fact that all this emerging talent is coming from Barnsley.”

All of Nicola’s fabulous photographs have been shot in various locations across the town, featuring local models and designers.

The exhibition, is available to view for FREE at The Barnsley Civic until June 8 so if you’re local or around this neck of the woods, please pick up your fashionably heeled feet and go visit! Personally I can’t wait to go and have a look!
