Cooking with Gousto

Cooking with Gousto

SOMETIMES the thought of cooking another meal makes me want to scream.

You know how it is.

It’s been a long day, you’ve had little time to yourself, you’re – to be quite frank – knackered and by the time your little one has settled for the night, it’s almost 8 o’clock and you’re ready to collapse.

On days like this, I’m often more than happy to settle for a glass of wine and a packet of pickled onion Monster Munch, because I’m just too tired to do anything else.

In fact, since Elsie was born, food has become more of a necessity in my house, rather than a luxury and the last few years have seen me totally forget the joy ‘proper’ cooking can bring to the soul.

But then.

Then I discovered Gousto – a food service which is not only a bloody good idea but has also got me loving cooking again. A service that has helped me to rediscover that joy which I thought had packed its bags and left me for good.

I actually wasn’t convinced at first. And when the Gousto team got in touch to ask if they could send me a box of food goodies to review, I almost turned it down.

Not because I didn’t like the idea but because the thought of doing more cooking from scratch, at the end of a tiring day, just didn’t appeal.

But I went for it in the end and I’m so glad I did, because whatdoyaknow but I absolutely loved it!

Gousto is a food subscription service which delivers all the ingredients you need to cook delicious healthy meals from scratch. No more food shopping, no more battling with your toddler at the checkout, no more shopping lists.

Just quality organic produce plus fantastic (and rather inspiring) step by step recipes delivered to you, at your convenience, in a swish box.

Wanna see what was in mine?

Inside Gousto box

My Gousto box provided all the ingredients for two adults for three delicious meals – Sicilian Traybake, Herbed Chicken Schntizel and Jerk Chicken.

On the first night, even though I was well and truly shattered, I battled on and cooked the Chicken Schnitzel dish which turned out to be a surprising hit.

The dish was tasty, satisfying and really easy to create. Big thumbs up there.

Next up was the Sicilian Traybake – another easy and delicious hit.

And finally, our favourite and so definitely the best of the bunch, the AMAZING Jerk Chicken.

Soooo scrumptious, that I’ve already made it again since, following the Gousto recipe, even though this time I had to do the dreaded food shop for the ingredients. *shudders*

When I heard about Gousto, I was more than a little skeptical about it. I thought that the food may be poor quality or the portions measly. Or that the recipes would be ok but nothing special.

But I’ll also happily admit that I was wrong. Very wrong.

Everything about Gousto is brilliant.

My husband loves it so much, that he’s pretty much recommended it to everyone he knows and works with already.

And me? Well I’m now such a fan, that I’m already thinking about when to order our next box and getting my chopping board and pans at the ready.

The best bit?

All of it really! The quality of ingredients is superb, the recipes are easy to follow and the meals we created and ate were delicious. If you’re sick of eating the same ol’ dishes or have lost your cooking spark, you’ll LOVE this.

The not so good bit?

It isn’t cheap. (But you guessed this right?) So as a family it’s probably not something you’re going to be able to purchase every week. However…for those weekends when you’re thinking of ordering takeaways when the kids are in bed, this – to me – is THE perfect alternative. Healthier, more delicious and definitely cheaper too.

How do I order?

It’s really easy. Just visit Gousto to pick your meals and away you go. Plus, if you order now you’ll also get a whopping 50% off your first box. Not bad ey?

Thank you to Gousto for my super box of food delights and for helping me feel inspired about home cooking again. X

With love,

Kate
