THE ‘FACIAL’ YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT

ONE of the very best things about being a blogger is that I get to try out all kinds of things.

Life, as they say, is never dull.

And so it was last Friday, that I was fortunate enough to try out something, which I truly believe could take the UK by storm once people know about it.

What did I try out?

Facial reflexology.

If you haven’t heard of it – and not many people have – facial reflexology works on the same principles as the more traditional foot reflexology, in that it’s based on the idea that different points on the face correspond with different areas of the body.

In short, it’s a non-intrusive complementary health therapy, but the difference is because points on the face are stimulated, it also has beauty benefits.

The wonderful, warm and incredibly lovely Tricia Suffling from Facial Therapy (based in York and Harrogate) kindly invited me a few months ago to give it a try, and because I’m such a huge fan of alternative treatments and traditional foot reflexology, I could not refuse.

In fact, I was very excited to try it out.

Tricia was inspired to become a facial reflexologist after reading Lone Sorensen’s book on ‘facial reflexology’ and her enthusiasm and love for the treatment is so apparent and a joy to witness.

So how did I get on?

The treatment itself lasted for an hour or so and was incredibly relaxing. So much so that I almost nodded off and after it was finished, could hardly sit up properly for a good few minutes.

At times it felt a little strange, which is to be expected, as it’s something I’ve never experienced before. But honestly, I was so relaxed, I’d have happily laid there all day having it done!

Facial reflexology

Tricia stimulates certain ‘points’ on your face with her hands and fingers and also uses a range of special facial tools, which look pretty terrifying but actually feel amazing. (Promise!)

The treatment, combined with the lovely Neal’s Yard products that were used (from the divine Frankincense range) meant that I left, not only feeling incredibly relaxed and stress free but also with the softest, glowing skin.

So glowing in fact,  that after a quick glance in the mirror I decided not to put any make up on and go au natural! (Not something that often happens in my world folks! *winks*)

When I got home, later that evening, I had an intense headache – a side effect that I’d been warned about, as your body works hard to eliminate the toxins from your body. Not pleasant no, but a good sign that something powerful was occurring. It is, after all, a health and wellbeing treatment.

But it was the next day, when I was really blown away by the results.

I awoke the next morning, after the best night’s sleep I’ve had in years and then looked in the mirror and noticed that not only was my skin still glowing, but that I looked visibly younger. I kid you not.

Frown lines that were etched on my forehead are now noticeably less visible and – here’s the crazy bit – it’s actually really difficult know to frown like I used to before! Even my husband said, blimey, it’s like you’ve had a bit of botox!

Lines around my eyes are visibly reduced, my skin is much clearer and softer and I no longer have dark, puffy circles under my eyes that I’ve been trying for years to improve with various lotions and potions.

And this is days later. As I type right now.

I can’t tell you more about the health benefits because I have no notable health issues but I do know that I feel calmer and less stressed. And I’ve no doubt, from the severe headache, that my body is happier for it.

All in all, if you can’t tell already (!) I am absolutely blown away by this treatment and have already decided it’s going to become part of my health maintenance from now on.

For around the cost of a normal facial, you can help balance your body, improve your overall health and see noticeable beauty benefits.

I mean I ask you, what on earth is not to love about that?!

Facial reflexology is still relatively uncommon in the UK – hopefully something which will change very soon- but if you do come across a therapist in your area or fancy venturing a little further to Yorkshire to see Tricia, please, please do give it a try.

It’s by far the most amazing treatment I’ve ever come across, to date. (And I still can’t hold a frown for long.)

With love,

Kate

Many thanks to Tricia for introducing me to such an incredible experience and the team at Neal’s Yard in York for making me feel so welcome.
