FRIDAY FIVE: Bobby dazzler earrings (the very best kind in my opinion)…

photo (16)

WHEN it comes to jewellery, there’s nothing I love more than a great big pair of bobby dazzler earrings.

In fact, just call me Pat Butcher. Seriously. I would take that as a huge compliment. That woman knew her earrings.

I’ve lost count of the amount of pairs that hang in my jewellery cabinet but suffice to say dear readers, I own quite a few.

Unfortunately though I’ve recently learnt that bouncing babies and dangly earrings just do NOT mix, so until Elsie gets a little older, I’ve had to abandon my beloved earrings for a while. (Because I rather like my ears and would like to keep them.)

However, in the meantime, that doesn’t stop me looking or drooling over some serious earring delights.

Here are five simply stunning pairs of dangly earrings to make you gasp with pleasure.

Buy them and wear them whilst you can. Your lobes will love you.

1 – Triple drop earring, ASOS £25
2 - Fringe earrings, Primark £5

collage earring 2

3 - Redangle earrings by Zelia Horsley Jewellery at Boticca.com £110
4 – Earrings, River Island, £12
5 - Fantasy crystal light turquoise earrings, Martine Wester £75

Which ones tickle your fancy?!

Till the next time, deck yourself out in jewels (costume or otherwise)!

FRIDAY FIVE: Things to do with your shoes (besides actually wearing them)

20130426_082507

A FEW years ago on eBay I purchased this fabulous pair of vintage Russell & Bromley disco-tastic heels.

They are one of the most divine pair of shoes I have ever seen in my life (and make no mistake I’ve seen a few), but there is a problem. Yes folks, unfortunately they are just a teeny bit too small for my size six feet.

I’ve tried all manner of ways to get them to fit but alas, nothing can be done. It is a sad shoe tale. *sobs*

Occasionally I’ve considered re-selling them and have even been known to pop them in a charity bag on occasion, only to rescue them out a few minutes later and hold them extra tight.

You see, the shoes are just so pretty, I simply cannot live without them and so it is, that I’ve decided to keep them. As I can’t dance the night away in them, I’ve been thinking about what I CAN do with them and so have come up with a few ideas.

Here are five simple ways to enjoy your shoes, without actually wearing them. Don’t say I never treat you ;-)

Use them as bookends

Beautiful shoes should always be displayed so if you can’t show them off on your feet, why not show them off on your shelves or bookcase instead?

To work as bookends, they’ll need to have some weight to them, so if they’re not a heavy shoe like a wedge or platform, you’ll need to make them heavier somehow.

Use a large stone or small bag of pebbles to weigh them down a little. Then just pop them next to your favourite books and behold! Bespoke bookends that scream style.

Hang them

On a wall, from a door knob or even above your bed. All stunning shoes look wonderful hung up, regardless of their size.

Simply invest in some pretty ribbon and attach them to your walls for awe-inspiring room decoration. Vintage and baby shoes look particularly wonderful displayed in this way and yes, I will be doing this with Elsie’s in years to come. ;-)

Put them in the picture!

Grab the shoes you love but can’t wear and turn them into a work of art by framing them.

It’s easy to do but just bear in mind you’ll need a display frame to do this, something with some depth so you can fit them in easily.

Shoes with a story to tell are always the best ones to frame. So dig out your wedding shoes or your little one’s christening shoes and put them in the spotlight where they rightly belong.

You could even frame them alongside a sentimental object like a wedding programme or invite.

Display them as an ornament

Get the shoes out of your wardrobe, out of their boxes and put them out on display!

Beautiful and unusual heels make fabulous ‘ornaments’ especially in bedrooms, dressing rooms (if you’re so lucky!) or somewhere unexpected like in a hallway.

You could even use them as a fabulous table centrepiece for when you’re entertaining guests or holding a vintage tea party. If nothing else, they’ll make for an interesting talking point. Just make sure you give them a good spruce up first so they are spotless.

Let little girls (or boys) wear them

If your shoes are too small, you might not be able to wear them, but little people with much smaller feet certainly can.

As long as they’re not too high (you don’t want any accidents or damaged tiny ankles) then let your shoes go free to bring joy and fun into a child’s world.

Watching a little girl tottering around in magnificent adult shoes, (which are at least 10 sizes too big for her) is a wonderful sight and a perfect example of the magic only amazing shoes can create.

So lend your heels to the little people. Trust me, your shoes will never be enjoyed as much.

What do you think? Do you keep shoes that are too small, too big or ridiculously high just because you love them? Or have you any unusual uses for your heels?

Till the next time, whenever possible, ditch the flats and go super high!

FEATURED POST: Dress your babe with style!

FEATURED POST: Dress your babe with style!

2012-05-22 17

*FEATURED POST*

YOUR babe may be little but it doesn’t mean you can’t dress him or her with style!

Thankfully, today’s baby and toddler clothing is just as chic as the outfits that us trendsetting mums are sporting.

Babies are no longer confined to wearing bright colours or t-shirts adorned with popular children’s cartoon characters because of the incredible clothing designers and retailers out there who are creating unique, stylish baby attire.

Here are some ideas to help you create fun and fashionable outfits for your bundle of joy.

Go organic

As a mummy who loves her fashion, I like to keep up with the trends but I also like to be environmentally friendly wherever and whenever possible. This is why I always try to look out for  Global Organic Textile (GOTS ) as all of their products are 100% certified organic.

Go crafty

If you’re a crafty mum why not channel your inner artist by creating your own baby clothing? Combine subtle, low-key colours like sophisticated grey with classic baby designs to make your cherub stand out from the crowd.

Go edgy

Baby garments with unusual, yet subtle embellishments give any outfit flair! Add ruffles and lace to pieces such as baby grows, tiny tees, jumpers, and other outer garments, to make these items super stylish.

Punked out pieces are another new trend in baby fashion with many designers creating clothing and accessories with a rock theme. Luckily, finding cool baby pieces isn’t as difficult as it used to be as designers are now making their tiny fashions more accessible by offering them in retail and department stores such as Marks and Spencer, allowing you to dress your child in style without breaking the bank.

Go ‘all grown up’

If you’re looking for inspiration for your children, why not dress them as ‘little adults’.

Baby boys sporting vests and tailored trousers always look charming whilst little girls look precious in dainty printed or colourful dresses. With the warmer seasons approaching, pieces like these will fit perfectly in your child’s spring and summer wardrobe.

STYLE: Ooh la la! Shoes to make you swoon…

I’VE come across some beautiful, sigh-inducing shoes in my time, but my oh my, the footwear brand I’m going to share with you now really is something else.

After working previously as an editor for the footwear publication Out On A Limb, I like to think I know quite a bit about incredible footwear and let me tell you folks, the Spring Summer 2013 collection from Aperlai is exactly that, incredible. Or as the French would say (Aperlai is a Parisian brand ) ‘incroyable’!

Aperlai designs feature a bold use of materials, such as exotic snakeskin and pony, and sleek, clean lines which just scream sophistication.

From towering statement heels that are oh so sexy, to stylish flats that combine comfort with iconic design, the collection really does have a pair suitable for everyone.

Admittedly the shoes are pretty pricey however when footwear is this beautiful, you’d be making a intelligent and stylish investment! Just think of it as a much needed treat for your hard working feet.

Here, especially for you, are my favourite picks from the Aperlai SS13 collection.

Prepare to swoon and then get saving. I’ve already got my piggy bank out. ;-)

Shoes 1

I absolutely adore these lizard-inspired stilettos that are stylish, edgy and witty too. £575.
Check out the gold stud detail at the back and the fabulous cut out sections! Truly shoes fit for a (green) goddess.

Shoes 2

Next up are these chic black suede heeled sandals that feature contrasting nude snakeskin straps. £585.
Effortlessly sexy, this stunning pair of vertiginous heels are, in my humble opinion, a modern day classic, perfect to wear with everything from your favourite skinny jeans to your little black dress. J’adore!

shoes 3Heels may always have my fashion heart, but even I have to admit these flouro python Gatsby loafers are pretty special. £390.
Aperlai’s iconic loafers have been given a spring overhaul with the acid bright edging, making them the perfect choice for a warm, sunny day or for adding cheer to a miserable, grey one.

Shoes 4

Finally, but not any less spectacularly, are these gorgeous silver Marilyn heels. £485.
Introducing a new wave of modern elegance, these stunning shoes feature silver metallic leather and futuristic design elements. Powerful but incredibly feminine, if the great Marilyn herself was alive today, I’m sure she would approve. In fact, can’t you picture her in them?

What do you think of the collection? Very difficult I know, but which pair would you choose?

Till the next time, don’t walk, strut!

FRIDAY FIVE: Gorgeous statement necklaces…

2013-03-08 13

IT’S all been rather serious on the blog of late, so here’s a little fashion frivolity for today’s Friday Five.

Truth be told, when it comes to jewellery I’ve always been a large earring kind of girl at heart. But now with beautiful little Elsie around, I’ve had to ditch the Pat Butcher style earrings for a while, in order to hang on to my ears!

Instead of wearing earrings, I’ve found myself opting for necklaces. Big chunky, statement necklaces at that. (I don’t really do small and dainty when it comes to jewels.)

Statement necklaces are the easiest way to turn a plain, boring outfit into something chic, stylish and fashionable. Making you go from drab to fab in an instant. As an often exhausted mummy with very little time, believe you me, it’s a good style tip to have under one’s skinny belt.

Here are five big, beautiful belters that I’ve come across of late. Which one would you pick?

2 – Jewelled dream necklace. £85 at ASOS
3 – Neon geometric shaped necklace. £13.95 at What’s About Town

4 – Chunky gold necklace. £39 at Astrid & Miyu
5 – Fitzgerald silver mirror perspex spike necklace. £55 by Jennifer Loiselle at Boticca.com

Till the next time, learn to rock your own world! And Happy Easter!
