SUMMER STYLE: BLACK LACE & ANGEL WINGS
THERE are many good things you can say about Great Britain. (Although admittedly, as of late, it doesn’t really feel that way.)
But let’s face it, our bonkers weather isn’t one of them.
We’re well into the first week of July and yet it’s taken me nearly two months, two months (!) before I managed to find the opportunity to wear one of my new summer style purchases.
This stunning black lace Bardot/ off the shoulder dress from Mango at House of Fraser.
I’ve been watching the weather reports like a hawk for weeks, ready to pounce and grab this bad boy out of my wardrobe to give it an outing and finally, finally the day came last weekend.
On Sunday, the husband, Elsie and I were invited for lunch at a friend’s house and as my friend always goes to great efforts in the kitchen to create the most scrumptious (I love this word!) food feast, I thought it was only right that I made an effort too in the style stakes.
So on went the dress.
I’m a massive fan of Bardot dresses at the moment as they’re just so easy to wear and comfortable yet incredibly feminine and this is my second that I’ve bought in the past few months.
To me they’re a pretty perfect kind of dress in that you look like you’ve made an effort, when actually all you’ve done is thrown the dress on!
The black lace means that it’s also one of those dresses that will take me effortlessly from day to night – just a change of shoe required – and I love the little added details like the the black tassels and delicate lace trim around the hem.
To keep it low key for the day I teamed it with some comfy sandals and my new favourite ‘wings’ necklace – a pretty bargain from the Happiness Boutique which really spoke to me and reminded me of the quote: “What good are wings without the courage to fly.” (Atticus)
Indeed.
Back to Sunday… and sat in my friend’s back garden basking in the sunshine with my bare, freckled shoulders out, I did, for a while at least, feel like British summertime had arrived.
And when I go on holiday in a couple of weeks time, you can bet your bottom dollar, that this little beauty – together with it’s Bardot sister – will be one of the first items to be popped in the case.
Although it would be really lovely if the weather here would also buck up so I can wear it much, much more.
Here’s hoping ey?
